La Terango - Senegalese cuisine in Seattle!

I got to try Senegalese cuisine for the first time in my life!

La Teranga
4903 1/2 Rainier Ave S
Seattle, WA 98118
Neighborhood: Columbia City

This is a hole in the wall kind of place but definitely worth the jaunt to Columbia City...

Teranga literally means hospitality in Wolof, a Senegalese language. In Senegal, hospitality is more than an art and culture; it’s a way of life. Teranga is the spirit of camaraderie, tolerance, and acceptance of one another. Senegalese strongly believe in taking care of anyone who crosses our path, especially guests. La Teranga restaurant tries to mirror the Senegalese culture. The various dishes have a unique flavor to them that you can only experience if you are lucky enough to come to Senegal, or go to La Teranga.

The Senegalese cuisine is a melting pot of diverse cultures including French, Portugal, Sub-Saharan, and North African. The exposure to different cultures has allowed to harmoniously blend together all the varied tastes to create a unique cuisine. The western part of Senegal reflects, pretty much, the general characteristics of a coastal cuisine, with less Pork, Veal or mutton meat and more fish and seafood. Despite the similarities between various cuisines there is always that little Senegalese touch that makes it unique and tastier to us. At La Teranga restaurant, you can see the attempt to revive the distinct qualities of Senegal’s cultural influences, adapting and incorporating local, regional, and global ingredients into authentic culinary creations.

I tired the Bouye (baobab fruit drink) and the Lamb Mafe. Delish! :)
