Tabu was born and raised in Hyderabad and moved to Mumbai when she was 14. She is unarguably one of the finest and most versatile actresses working in the Indian film industry.

Tabu was introduced to Indian Cinema by Mr. Dev Anand in the film Hum Naujawan in 1985. Her first role as a leading lady was in the Telugu film Coolie No. 1 and her first feature release in the Hindi language was Pehla Pehla Pyar.

Winner of two National Awards for Gulzar's Maachis and Madhur Bhandarkar's Chandni Bar she has worked in over 70 films in various languages including Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kanada, Bengali and Marathi. With Mira Nair's The Namesake, she tasted international recognition and widespread critical acclaim. She has recently finished working with Oscar Winning director Ang Lee in his much awaited file The Life of Pi.

Tabu seamlessly traverses the boundaries of commercial and art house cinema. She has had commercial success in films such as Border, Saajan Chale Sasural, Biwi No 1, Hum Saath Saath Hain and Fanaa. And has had critical success in films such as Astitva, Hu Tu Tu and Cheeni Kum.
